Meenvallam Waterfalls
Meenvallam Waterfalls, a hidden gem in Palakkad district, cascades from as high as 45 metres into Thuppanadu River which originates from the Kalladikodan Hills. Thuppanadu River later joins with the Thoothapuzha, which in turn empties into Bharathapuzha River. Located 8 km deep inside the forests from Thuppanad Junction on the Palakkad-Manarkkad Route in NH 213, the waterfalls are catching the attention of a lot of our visitors.
Atla Waterfalls
Atla Waterfalls is near to Meenvallam waterfalls, Palakkad district. This waterfall also known as Aaral waterfalls. Set in the lush green surroundings of western ghats, the beautiful Atla waterfalls is surrounded by dense forests and meticulous landscapes. It is way bigger than near by Meenvellam falls and more beautiful as well. You need to trek around 4km through the forest to reach this falls.
Kanjirapuzha Dam
A must watch place. Well maintained and entertaining with a beautiful dam garden. You will enjoy a breathtaking view of the dam with a back drop of mountain covered in clouds. The Kanjirapuzha Dam, a masonry earth dam built for providing irrigation to a Cultural Command Area of 9,713 hectares, is located in the Palakkad district in the Indian state of Kerala.
Malampuzha Garden and Dam
Malampuzha Garden in Palakkad district is the only rock-cut garden in South India made by Nek Chand, the renowned artist and winner of the prestigious Padmashree Award. The entire garden is made from broken pieces of bangles, tiles, used plastic cans, tins and other waste materials. Also situated in the gardens is the massive Malampuzha Yakshi (female vampire) built in 1969 by Kanayi Kunhiraman, a greatly respected sculptor from the state. It is a spectacular relic of art that we are lucky to still have with us. The flowering beds, fountains and rose gardens along with an aerial ropeway make it a place that instantly soothes your soul.
KovaiKutralam Water Falls
Kovai Kutralam is a scenic spot with a gentle waterfall originating on the Siruvani hill ranges. It is located on the western ghat mountain range that lies to the west of this city at a distance of about 32 kms from Coimbatore. The siruvani dam is just above this water fall and this place is under the control of state forest department. Permission has to be sought from them to visit this Kovai Kutralam Falls. Limited bus service is available from the city and this area is out of bounds after 5 pm. This is the only place near Coimbatore where you find a nice enchanting waterfall.
Velliangiri Mountains
The Velliangiri Mountains,: a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, are situated at the Western Ghats border of Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu bordering Palakkad District, Kerala. Known as the “Sapthagiri, 7 Hills– Seven Mountains”, these mountains are held and revered on par with spiritually most powerful place on the planet – Mount Kailash, the legendary abode of Lord Shiva. On the top of the Velliangiri Mountains, Shiva is worshipped as Swayambhu, one who is self-created and in this form, he graces the devotees.
Palakkad Fort
Tipu’s Fort, also known as Palakkad Fort, is a beautifully maintained edifice in Palakkad district and was an important military base in the past. Rebuilt by Hyder Ali in the 18th century, the fort was under the Mysore rulers until the British took control of the place. It was then used for providing government services during the British era. Named after Hyder's son Tipu Sultan, it is an important historical destination today.
It is among the best preserved forts in South India. The thick laterite walls impress all who view it. People frequent the spot for relaxing walks and jogs. A large ground that lies between the Fort and the Palakkad town hall is an important location for public meetings and important functions.
Silent Valley National Park
Silent Valley was declared as National Park in 1984 and formally inaugurated in the year 1985. Initially there was only 89.52 sq.km. area under the Division which forms the core zone of the National Park. In 2007, an area of 148 sq.km. was added to this Division as buffer zone. The eerie silence, emphasised by the missing Cicadas that gave Silent Valley its name, may make you feel and hear things you could never have imagined. A few centuries ago, before humans reached the Silent Valley, this reserve of tropical rainforests stood undisturbed and tranquil like a perfectly hidden diamond.
Dhoni water Falls
Dhoni is situated around 15 Kilometers from Palakkad town in Kerala, India. Dhoni is named after a boat shaped rock on one of its hills, as boat in Malayalam is called "thoni". It is famous for Dhoni Waterfalls and the Western Ghat forests. Dhoni Waterfalls is located around 15 km from Palakkad and around 34 km from Kollengode Town in Palakkad. An entry pass is required before entering the area. A fee of Rs.100/- (from 15 August 2016) will be charged per person. You have to walk 4 km from the bottom of the hill to reach the waterfalls. The roads are not tarred, and one can see water flowing down between the rocks on the way up. No restrictions for carrying food to the top.
Attappady Tribal Village
Attappadi is among the biggest tribal settlements in Kerala. This hill area is famous for its worship of the mountain peak 'Malleeswaran' in the form of a massive 'Siva-linga’ and Sivarathri celebrations at the Malleeswaram Temple is an extremely important event in the area. The Bhavani River plays an integral part of the celebrations as well. The area is under government protection to conserve the aesthetics of this unique place. The reserve area is currently inhabited by Irulas, Mudugas and Kurumbar. Their population has dwindled but it is still among the most picturesque locations in Palakkad district.
